ONGOING PROJECT: WESTERN DOOR/POWER TRAIL
Karen is a 2010 of a prestigious Artist Project Grant. Awarded by the Arizona Commission on the Arts, this grant will support the development of a new evening-length, multi-disciplinary, site-specific piece, Western Door/Power Trail. To learn more, follow the Western Door/Power Trail Blog.

Karen will present an original research presentation: Developing Leadership and Creativity in the Technique Class and teach a master class in Intermediate Postmodern Contemporary Dance.

Karen set a new work on Arcadia High School’s Advanced Dance Students.
Jan 23-24: National Dance Education Organization’s Board of Directors Meeting (New York, NY)

Feb 7-13: Attakkalari India Biennial Festival (Bangalore, India)
Karen taught and performed her solo “Pausing at the Threshold” in this international festival alongside artists from around the world.
Feb 20-22: BFA Transitional Projects at ASU (Tempe, AZ)
Graduating student Rose Fisher performed Karen’s work, “Worth a Thousand Words.”

Mar 21: School of Music Percussion Studio Concert (Tempe, AZ)
Excerpts of “Twelve Squared” were performed. Choreographed in collaboration with Mary Fitzgerald.

Apr 28: Twelve Squared at ASU Art Museum (Tempe, AZ)
“Twelve Squared” is a collaborative piece developed by choreographers Karen Schupp and Mary Fitzgerald and ASU Percussion Professor JB Smith. Twelve musicians and twelve dancers performed in and around the ASU Art Museum in this site-specific work.

June 21-27: National Dance Education Organization’s Board of Director Meeting and National Conference (New York, NY)
Karen taught the Student Session on Release Technique Pedagogy. This session helped students incorporate ideas of movement efficiency, imagery, and other concepts of Release Technique into their own teaching practices.

Sept 13: American Dance Guild 2009 Festival (New York, NY)

Sept 26: Back to Buffalo: An Alumni Dance Concert (Buffalo, NY)
Karen returned to Buffalo to perform in this fundraising concert for her alma mater, SUNY at Buffalo’s Department of Theatre and Dance. This was Karen’s first performance in Buffalo in over 10 years. For more information, please visit www.theatredance.buffalo.edu
Sept 27-Oct 2: SUNY at Buffalo Department of Theatre and Dance Residency (Buffalo, NY)
Karen set a new work on members of the Department’s Zodiaque Dance Company as well as taught master classes for the department and community.
