ONGOING PROJECT:  WESTERN DOOR/POWER TRAIL


Karen was a 2010 recipient of a prestigious Artist Project Grant, an award funded by the NEA and State of Arizona. Awarded by the Arizona Commission on the Arts, this grant supported the development of a new evening-length, multi-disciplinary, site-specific piece, Western Door/Power Trail. To learn more, follow the Western Door/Power Trail Blog. This piece will premiered at the Arizona Falls on November 13, 2010, and will be performed throughout 2011 and 2012.


January

Jan 15-20: Guest Artist Residence, University of Texas Pan American Department of Music and Dance. Karen will teach classes and set a new work for UTPA students.


March

Mar 2-4: Karen’s newest work, “Dancing in Heaven” will premiere in ASU School of Dance’s Dance Annual Concert. This work is part of a larger work, In it to Win, that chronicles Karen’s experiences growing up in a competition dance studio in the 80s and 90s.


Mar 23-26: Karen will teach Master Classes in Modern Technique as part of the American College Dance Festival’s Baja Conference at CSU Dominguez Hills


April

Apr 19-22: Karen will present a new work and perform Xmas in the Desert as part of A Ludwig Dance Theatre’s concert. Visit www.aludwigdance.org for more information.

Feb 18-20: Premiere of Exhausted Abundance, a new site-specific duet addressing soil erosion.

Mar 25: Arizona premiere of Schreibstuck. Karen is one of three choreographers selected to interpret Thomas Lehman’s movement score.
