Currently
my scholarly research grows out of my creative pursuits and
teaching with a focus on furthering the interrelationships
between teaching and research, theory and practice, and
artistry and scholarship. In order for dance to continue to
evolve within the university setting, performers,
choreographers, theorists, and teachers need to challenge
their own methods and assumptions on a constant basis. I
look at scholarly research as an occasion to experiment
with my work in the rehearsal studio and the classroom.
Recent papers include "Bridging the Gap: Connecting Dance
Studio and University Dance Communities" presented at the
National Dance Education Organization's 2007 conference,
"The Culture of Dance Competitions" which was presented at
the Congress on Research in Dance's international
conference in 2006, and "Developing Critical Thinking
Through Rehearsals" at the National Dance Education
Organization's national conference in 2006.
